Troubleshooting Autotrol Filter Control
Valve
Life
Streams International Mfg. Co.
Installation
Instructions for Hercules
(Scroll down for Diagram)
1.
Remove black cap.
2. Line up control valve pilot
hole over the riser tube on the filter.
3. Push down - line up threads
- valve to tank. Make sure there is no grit in threads to ensure
proper seal. (Do not cross-thread). Turn on.
4. Plumb in left side back, as
facing front is inlet, outlet is on the right side. Next, a backwash
drain line (1/2-inch plastic hose) must be attached to the drain
fitting on the back of the control and run into a drain. (More
directions are in the control valve manual.)
5. Then backwash (before setting
backwash pins and clock) as follows:
- Leave unplugged.
- Set the control to backwash position
- The following is very important
to prevent plugging control valve with media!!
Open valve partially to let tank fill very slowly in backwash
position. Do not plug it in yet. This will allow air to escape
out of the drain as the tank fills. Doing otherwise can cause
the control valve to plug up with media and cause enormous problems.
- Once tank is filled, it will automatically start backwashing.
The water will run dark for a few minutes then gradually start
clearing. Once it is running good and air is purged, you can
open it all the way, plug it in, let it run through backwash
cycle. Then it will go off, and come back on in the purge cycle.
Let it go until purge stops. Then the control will automatically
finish up by rotating around to the service position. You should
be able to use water after purge stops.
6. There may be a little bit
of grayness or air bubbles at one of the taps. Grayness can be
caused by air bubbles. It may take a few days for air bubbles
to clear.
Fill a clear glass with water from tap. If there are air bubbles,
they will rise to top and water should be crystal clear &
odor-free. If not, you may run water for another 10 minutes
or so and repeat air bubble test in glass.
7. Set backwash pins as needed.
All pins in = every night. Every other pin = alternate nights,
etc. If you don't know how often to set it, email
me telling your water conditions before installing the system,
and I will be happy to suggest the right setting.
8. Set clock time to current
time. Do not worry about backwashing at night.
It is automatically off set when set to current time.
Please Note: If you have bacteria
of any kind in your water, you must use our chlorine pre-treatment
system. New wells can develop bacteria after a while, most notably
iron bacteria from a contaminated well casing. If smell or staining
starts after a while, this may be the cause. The solution is
mentioned above.
Note: If you install a filter bypass, and have bacteria, without
a chlorine pre-treatment, opening the bypass will contaminate
your pipes on the filtered water side. If you have our optional
1 micron filter housing, you will need to add bleach to the then
run water slowly at each faucet one at atime till you smell the
bleach. Shut them off leave over night. This with dis-infect
them. This is good to do every 6 to 12 months as a pre-caution
anyway. Bacteria can grow backwards from the faucets into the
pipes.
